Kass Brazeal, Fire Investigator within the Division of Fire Safety, has been selected as the March, 2010 Employee of the Month for the Department of Public Safety.  Kass was selected for this award for the initiative he demonstrated in assisting local law enforcement officers with a potentially deadly situation involving a dangerous suspect who had set two fires, in the presence of law enforcement officers, within a residence that he had attempted to burglarize.  Kass’ immediate actions to subdue the subject prevented further injuries to other law enforcement officers, as attempts to detain the combative subject were occurring within the fiery residence.  Following the apprehension of the subject, Kass still fulfilled his investigative duties by processing the fire scene and collecting evidence which was used to charge the subject with first degree arson, second degree burglary, and three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.  The subject is awaiting trial.
